Digital Radio Mondial - or Digital Medium Wave.

In 2007 Radio Devon became the UK's first Local radio station to take part in some DRM trials.
The Plymouth 855kHz transmitter was given over to the DRM service,
and about 130 panellists were given DRM radio receivers ( Roberts-Sangean or Morphy Richards) to see what
reception they could get.

The 855kHz frequency eminating from Plymouth is believed to be one of the oldest in the UK,
and was running in the 1930's from the centre of Plymouth, so the switching off of the
855 MW transmitter was quite an occassion.

For the technically minded DRM uses a single frquency network - and COFDM transmission.
( Coded Orthgonal Frequency Division Multiplex.)
